Samtgemeinde Grasleben - Life in the nature park "Elm-Lappwald" The municipality of Grasleben with its four member municipalities Grasleben, Mariental, Querenhorst and Rennau is located in the east Part of the rural district Helmstedt on the border to Sachsen- Anhalt and thus directly on the former inner-german border. There ist a high recreational value which invites to take a walk in the nature park "Elm-Lappwald". In Mariental the 850 year old Cistercian monastery is definitely worth seeing. Cities like Berlin, Magdeburg or Hannover are reachable in a short time due to the connection of the A2. in fact of the settlement of some significant Industrial enterprises, such as the Meisterbäckerei Steinecke, Sports thieme and the salt supplier esco, the Samtgemeinde Grasleben developed different from the other villages in this region in the 20th century. This structural change from the farmers' village to the industrial community is presented in the museum in Grasleben. Unique in the area is the outdoor pool in Grasleben because the special water it is very skin- and eye-friendly. In the member community Mariental there also is an idyllic campsite.
